There is rejoicing in the streets of Egypt today! It has been difficult the last few days to determine what exactly is going on. The protests have at times appeared to be a desire for a more democratic society, and have revealed a deep reaction among the young protesters to remove President Hosni Mubarak from power, something he has had for 30 years – longer than many of the protesters have been alive!

There has been a great deal of complaint over the brutality of the Mubarak regime. The Egyptians have greater respect for their military. It appears that the military are firmly in charge at present. It is still not clear as to two important issues:

  1. The role and authority of the recently-appointed Vice-President – Suleiman.
  2. The role and authority of the Egyptian military, especially as it relates to their Council.
Time will tell.

The Bible speaks of Egypt often, and many Bible believers have been asking about Isaiah 19. Is this the time of fulfillment? In our opinion, it is not. There are interesting parallels. Isaiah 19:2 says that the LORD GOD of Israel will “set the Egyptians against the Egyptians; and they shall fight every one against his brother.” In Isaiah 19:4 we read:
“And the Egyptians will I give over into the hand of a cruel lord; and a fierce king shall rule over them, saith the Lord, the LORD of hosts.”
This passage also predicts in verse 22 that God will “smite Egypt” – but it also says that God will “heal it” – and the passage ends by calling Egypt – “MY people” – praise the LORD!

We pray for peace and a healthy response to all of this on the part of the Egyptian people. We also pray that our own government would change its view of the Muslim Brotherhood – well-known for its assassinations, and spread of terrorism – many intelligence personnel believe that they are controlling much of the terrorism in this world.

We also pray that many Egyptians will put their faith and trust in the Messiah of Israel, the only One Who can save us from sin, death, and hell!
