Among all the jubilation of the Mediterranean Union coming into existence, bringing with it the hope of Middle East peace coming soon, it's hard to imagine that we could turn the news on tomorrow morning and hear that Damascus has been vaporized by a nuclear weapon but it is a possibility as I'm about to demonstrate.
Israel National News has two stories online right now indicating Hizbullah has the ingredients necessary to arm their rockets with weapons of mass destruction and is preparing to do so soon.
The first article, entitled "Kuwaiti Paper: Hizbullah Arming Rockets With Gas", states "Hizbullah has acquired the chemicals needed to make chemical weapons such as nerve gas or mustard gas from North Korean suppliers and is allegedly preparing to arm its Katyusha rockets with chemical warheads. The Kuwaiti paper also declared that the assistance of Syria and Iran was crucial for Hizbullah’s efforts. The reports were based on information provided to al-Siyasa by Syrian opposition figures in the United States."
The second, entitled "Hizbullah Gears Up For War, Olmert Asks for UN Help", echoes the first but goes into some detail concerning how Hizbullah has rearmed itself in spite of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 with the peacekeeping force deployed in Lebanon by the United Nations doing nothing to stop it for the most part.
Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak is quoted as saying the following in that article (emphasis added mine), "[UN Security Council] Resolution 1701 is being violated. Hizbullah continues to get stronger with the ongoing and intimate assistance of the Syrians."
What does this tell us?
There is much we can glean from the two news stories linked above.
The first that comes to mind is WHY Bible prophecy tells us the "prince that shall come" (the prophesied Antichrist) is going to have to confirm (or make strong) the prophesied seven-year peace plan foretold in Bible prophecy.
Without genuine teeth being put toward peace being kept in the Middle East, this is what is going to happen time after time, in no small part because the United Nations never dedicates its resources to anything other than stopping Israel from defending itself!
As far as doing anything to stop Israel's enemies? The U.N. is impotent. Worse than impotent!
Since UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) arrived in Lebanon, Hizbullah has been working, both around the clock and the U.N.'s so-called peacekeepers, entrenching themselves in hardened bunkers while potentially preparing a WMD attack! Had UNIFIL not been in Israel's way, it's highly likely the situation may have been far less dangerous than it presently is for all concerned. We can be sure of it, in fact.
The world should've let Israel cut the head off the snake that is Hizbullah back in 2006, but it didn't. As a result, chemical weapons are potentially in the hands of Hizbullah that bring with them the possibility of a mushroom cloud rising in the Middle East. My guess? If that should occur, the fireball will rise from what is today known as Damascus, currently the world's longest continuously inhabited city according to many scholars.
Isaiah 17:1: The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.
In closing, isn't it interesting how little play in the news the possibility that Hizbullah has chemical weapons and is preparing a WMD attack on Israel is getting? The birth of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's twins will get far more coverage.
